[Answered]_Thread drift Do we need to clamp down on it in the Playground?

Personally, I like it when conversations grow organically and an observation prompted by an aside becomes the new subject of a thread. It is an experience far closer to actual human interaction than moderated debate on specific subjects and while I enjoy the latter, I would also like the freedom to indulge in the former.

I'm not a computer person, so I don't know what the potential downside of allowing chat to range across a variety of subjects would be, but if it is at all possible, I don't think that moderators should concerns themselves with whether or not a given exchange is 'topical' for the Playground.

Hmmm... reviewing the thread that prompted this observation, I see that the Forum Administrator agrees with me.

I guess this takes care of that concern. ;)

Yeah I got the smack down from him. In my defense I to am trying to get a hold of The Playground concept. I've modded and Admined other forums and believe me, modding The Playground seems unnatural.

I guess that is why The Forum Administrator makes all the big bucks. ;)

If I might offer a piece of advice, which I incidentally believe applies to most governance of other persons, 'less is more'. B)

Yes, I'm growing into that. I recognized early on that The Playground was the one thing that was going to morph and evolve the most. We did purposely signed on some mods that had no experience modding and didn't participate in any forums. So, they where a clean slate and it will be easier for them.

I get it for the most part and do try to take a hands off approach to The Playground. I have hiccups and things are discussed backstage. In a years time I figure this will all become second nature.

Of course if we get 100 members or so, we'll have to promote some mods to Admin and ask some members to become mods.

Ah, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

It's amazing how much traffic can be moderated by few people when they only need to worry about preventing spammers and actual crimes.

Well throw in The Classroom and the fact that we have a couple of part time mods it is a little more challenging. Not really now but when more members come on board.

Anyway this thread has served its purpose. Want to talk about the merits of modding take it to another forum.
